Stop asking if new AI models are smarter. This question is too broad.
Claude Fable 5 is for high-complexity tasks. It is not for generic text.
Use it for:
- Frontend and UI work
- Video and code generation
- Tasks with many constraints
Avoid it for:
- Summaries
- Simple editing
- Basic classification
- Short support replies
The output cost is high. 1M output tokens cost 50 dollars. This price is high for simple text.
The cost makes sense if you get:
- Fewer retries
- Better first-pass structure
- Less manual repair
Test it with hard tasks. Check if frontend code runs. Check if the visual structure stays clear. Check if it keeps context over long tasks.
Fable 5 uses a safety path. Some requests fall back to Claude Opus 4.8. Separate these responses in your tests. Mixing them makes your data noisy.
Use Fable 5 when failure is expensive. Ask yourself: Is this task complex enough for a strong first pass? Is one strong pass cheaper than three weak retries?
This is the economic boundary.
