Most people confuse AI agents with APIs. They are not the same.

An API is a tool. It follows a set of fixed rules. It waits for a request. It sends a response. It does not think. It follows a script.

An AI agent is a worker. It uses reasoning to solve problems. It decides which steps to take. It interacts with tools to reach a goal.

Think of it like this:

• An API is a hammer. You use it to hit a nail.
• An AI agent is a carpenter. The carpenter uses the hammer to build a house.

One provides data. The other completes tasks.

Understand this distinction to build better systems.
