Three years ago, I failed. I put links in blog posts. I hoped for clicks. My income stopped at 400 dollars a month.
I needed a new plan. I started asking three questions:
- What is the cost to get one customer?
- What is the long term value (LTV) of one referral?
- What is the conversion rate?
I compared three methods.
Display Ads:
- Cost: Zero.
- LTV: Low. You earn less than one cent per view.
- Result: No growth.
Sponsorships:
- Cost: High. You spend hours on contracts and emails.
- LTV: Zero. You get paid once.
- Result: High risk to your trust.
Recurring Affiliates:
- Cost: Low.
- LTV: High. You earn every month.
- Result: Steady income.
Look at the math for a 99 dollar product:
- First sale: 14.85 dollars.
- Month 1: 7.92 dollars.
- Month 2: 7.92 dollars.
- Month 3: 7.92 dollars.
The money adds up.
I use a 5 stage funnel:
- Top content.
- Trust building.
- Suggestions.
- Conversion.
- Retention.
Now I use a simple filter for new deals:
- LTV Check: Is it recurring? I prioritize monthly pay.
- Fit Check: Does it feel natural? I avoid forced ads.
