Shopify released over 150 updates this week.

One update carries a hard deadline. Shopify Scripts stop working on June 30, 2026. You must migrate all Scripts to Shopify Functions before then.

Here is what you need to know about the new updates.

New Features

โ€ข Native A/B testing: You can now test themes and checkout flows without third-party apps. This reduces app complexity for agencies. โ€ข Shopify Functions: These replace old Scripts. They run in a WebAssembly environment. This means better performance and faster execution. They also do not block checkout rendering. โ€ข Sidekick AI: This tool helps you understand store performance. Developers should explore the new API surface for custom integrations. โ€ข B2B Updates: Company profiles, custom pricing, and payment terms like Net 30 are now available for non-Plus users. Use native APIs instead of third-party tools. โ€ข Unified Permissions: You can now manage POS and admin staff permissions in one place under Settings.

Your Script Migration Plan

  1. Map each Script to a Function equivalent.
  2. Create the Function using Shopify CLI.
  3. Replicate your Script logic in the Function.
  4. Test in a development environment.
  5. Deploy before June 23.

The Unsolved Problem

Despite 150 updates, Shopify still has an architectural gap. It is the sync problem between Shopify and other sales channels.

Example:

The sale fails because the inventory did not sync in time. Shopify Summer '26 does not fix this data lag.

To build true multichannel commerce, you need a system that handles inventory across every channel immediately.

Summary Checklist

โ€ข Migrate Scripts: High priority. โ€ข Use Native B2B APIs: High priority. โ€ข Fix Sync Architecture: Essential for multichannel growth.
