The UK is making a massive bet on AI.
A new Sovereign AI Unit is now active. The government provides up to £500 million to support British AI companies. This unit does more than provide money. It offers equity stakes, compute power, fast visas, and help with procurement.
The strategy includes five AI Growth Zones. Private investment in these zones has reached £28.2 billion. This movement expects to create over 15,000 jobs.
Major tech companies are already moving in.
- NVIDIA pledged £2 billion to the UK AI startup ecosystem.
- Microsoft committed about $15 billion in UK spending.
- Microsoft is building the country's largest AI supercomputer with Nscale.
India uses a different strategy. The IndiaAI Mission focuses on subsidized compute. They offer over 34,000 GPUs to startups at low rates.
The UK uses private capital to lead. India uses subsidized resources to compete.
