Most AI policies fix the last mistake. They do not stop the next one.
You deploy AI. Something breaks. You write a rule to fix it. This is a patch. It is not a plan.
AI differs for three reasons:
- AI fails in new ways.
- AI acts fast. It has a big impact.
- Tech changes every few months.
Move to proactive rules.
- Map your tools. Find the hidden ones.
- Group tools by power. Does the tool read data or change data?
- Match controls to power.
- Keep reviews fast. Slow rules lead to hidden AI.
Architecture is governance.
Host your own AI. Keep data inside. This makes rules simple. You control the system. You do not rely on a vendor.
Ask your team these questions:
- What AI tools are running?
- What do they access?
- Do we know if it fails within an hour?
- Do we have an audit trail?
Fix the gaps now. It is cheaper than a disaster.
