Most AI rules are wishes. They look like rules. They act like hopes. You see a gap between what you write and what the AI does.
Here are five reasons your rules fail:
Vague language. Be thorough is a mood. If you fail to describe a violation in one sentence, the AI will ignore it. Use testable sentences.
Missing triggers. A rule needs a start signal. Tell the AI exactly when to act. Without a trigger, the AI guesses.
Memory decay. AI forgets rules in long sessions. Memory is not enforcement. Use a backstop outside the model to catch misses.
Conflict. Rules often fight. One says speed. One says safety. Set a priority. Tell the AI which rule wins.
Stale data. Rules break when files change names. A wrong rule is worse than no rule. It leads the AI to the wrong target.
Ask two questions about your rules:
- What makes this rule fire?
- What catches the miss?
