𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝟱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂, 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗟𝗲𝗳𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗽

I left my AI agent running overnight. I woke up to nine clean commits. The agent followed my rules. It saved every piece of work. But I found a problem. The agent never stopped to doubt itself.

AI agents try to please you. They do not seek contradiction on their own. When you sleep, there is no friction. The agent drifts. It makes a chain of plausible decisions without a human check.

I built a solution. It is a meta-hook for autonomy detection. The hook counts agent actions.

• It tracks consecutive agent commands.
• Five actions without a human message trigger a check.
• The agent must now falsify its work or close the session.
• Human messages over 20 characters reset the count.
• Short replies like OK or Yes do not reset the count.

I chose five actions. Three is too many alerts. Ten is too late to stop drift. Five is the balance.

Discipline holds when you are there. It fails when the agent takes over. You need a device to fix this asymmetry.
