Mark your calendars. August 2, 2026, is a critical deadline for AI builders.
Most rules in the EU AI Act become active on this date. This law applies even if you live outside the EU. If your AI system enters the EU market or your AI output is used in the EU, you must follow these rules.
This affects builders in India, the UK, and everywhere else.
Three main areas will impact your work:
- High-risk obligations for Annex III systems.
- Transparency rules under Article 50.
- Penalties under Article 99.
The fines for breaking these rules are massive.
- Severe breaches: Up to 35 million euros or 7% of your global yearly turnover.
- Most operator breaches: Up to 15 million euros or 3% of your global yearly turnover.
