US envoy to India Sergio Gor says India and the US hope to finish their trade deal in the coming weeks. He spoke at Citi's 2026 India Conference on Wednesday.
- A US trade team is in India now. Only one percent of the talks remains open.
- Top negotiators began a three-day meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday.
- Brendan Lynch leads the US team. Darpan Jain of the Department of Commerce leads India's team.
- The two sides finished the framework for the pact in February.
- The current talks aim to finish an interim deal before a larger agreement moves forward.
Gor also spoke about new US tariffs linked to forced labor findings. The Office of the United States Trade Representative issued findings on June 2 and proposed tariffs on imports from 60 economies.
Gor said the tariffs hit many countries. He named the European Union, Canada, Mexico, Japan, and South Korea. He said India was not the only target.
