India's foreign exchange reserves grew by $938 million. The total reached $682.321 billion for the week ended May 28. The Reserve Bank of India released the data on Friday.

The reserves had dropped by $7.511 billion in the prior week to $681.384 billion. They hit a record high of $728.494 billion in the week ended February 27. The Middle East conflict put pressure on the reserves after that date. The RBI sold dollars to support the rupee.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked citizens to help save foreign exchange starting May 11. He urged people to cut foreign travel. He asked them to limit fuel use. He also asked them to avoid gold purchases for one year.
