A five-day agriculture meeting started in Indore on Tuesday. Officials from BRICS countries joined the opening talks under India's leadership.
Ajit Kumar Sahu serves as Joint Secretary for International Cooperation at the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. He said the group is discussing food security, climate change impact on farming, and stronger agricultural ties.
BRICS nations hold nearly half of the world's population. Sahu said this makes food security a shared priority for all member countries.
The Agriculture Working Group has held about eight meetings across four past sessions. The fifth session is taking place in person in Indore and will run through June 11.
Talks also cover nutrition, climate-friendly farming, international trade, supply chains, digital agriculture, research, knowledge sharing, artificial intelligence, and robotics.
A meeting of agriculture ministers from BRICS and partner countries is set for June 12 and 13. Department Secretary Atish Chandra led the opening session on Tuesday.
Officials expect a joint declaration after the ministers agree on key points.
