A United States trade delegation visited India from June 1 to June 4. The group held talks on a proposed bilateral trade agreement.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal spoke at a weekly briefing. He said the conversations were positive and constructive. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to move the interim trade agreement forward.
The talks support a framework announced in a joint statement in February. The proposed pact aims to promote reciprocal and mutually beneficial trade.
The commerce ministry reported progress on several issues:
- Trade in goods
- Non-tariff measures
- Customs and trade facilitation
- Economic security alignment
- Other areas of mutual interest
US chief negotiator Brendan Lynch led the US team. Darpan Jain, additional secretary in India's Department of Commerce, led the Indian team.
Last week, US Ambassador Sergio Gor said only one percent of issues remain unresolved.
