Ford Motor Co. is recalling nearly 420,000 vehicles in the US because of a seat belt issue. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released a report on Tuesday.
The recall includes certain Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles from model years 2018 through 2022.
The seat belts sometimes lock by mistake. This prevents them from retracting or extending properly. A seat belt with this problem increases injury risk during a crash. Occupants also risk injury if the seat belt retracts too fast.
This action replaces and expands two previous NHTSA recalls for the same issue.
Ford knows about two warranty claims and two field reports related to the recall. The automaker also knows about one injury linked to the defect.
Vehicle owners receive notification letters by mail. Owners take vehicles to a Ford or Lincoln dealership for inspection of both front seat belt retractors. Dealers replace affected retractors at no cost.
