Info Edge AI Portfolio Doubles to Rs 1,268 Crore as Startup Bets Soar
Info Edge is witnessing a massive surge in its investment valuation, driven primarily by a high-performing artificial intelligence portfolio. The company's strategic pivot toward emerging technologies is yielding significant returns, as its total startup holdings have climbed to an impressive Rs 41,300 crore.
The AI Surge: Doubling Value in Record Time
A recent shareholder letter from Info Edge reveals that its artificial intelligence (AI) startup portfolio has more than doubled in value. Since 2020, the company has invested Rs 614 crore across 28 AI-focused startups. This portfolio is now valued at Rs 1,268 crore, representing a 2.1x multiple and an estimated gross Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 31%.
The success of these AI bets is underscored by strong institutional validation. Fifteen of these companies have successfully secured follow-on funding from global heavyweights, including Insight Partners, Peak XV, SIG, and Vertex. This indicates that Info Edge's early-stage selections are gaining significant traction in the global venture capital ecosystem.
Consumer Tech and Deeptech: The Engines of Growth
While AI is the rising star, consumer technology remains the heavyweight anchor of Info Edge's investment strategy. The company has deployed Rs 2,755 crore across 45 consumer-tech and consumer-AI companies. This segment is currently valued at a staggering Rs 37,214 crore, delivering a massive 13.5x multiple and a gross IRR of approximately 34%. Much of this value is attributed to its stakes in listed entities like PB Fintech and the Zomato/Blinkit ecosystem.
Parallelly, the company is nurturing a deeptech portfolio consisting of 30 companies. Having invested Rs 455 crore, the deeptech segment is currently valued at Rs 559 crore (a 1.2x multiple). Although the IRR of 15% is lower than other segments, the company notes that these are younger investments focused on the intensive R&D and intellectual property creation phases. Notable highlights include spacetech firm Manastu Space and electric air mobility startup ePlane, both of which secured significant funding under the government's RDI scheme.
Massive Scale of Overall Startup Holdings
The sheer scale of Info Edge’s venture arm is evident in its cumulative figures. Out of a total investment of roughly Rs 4,900 crore across 135 startups, the total portfolio value has reached nearly Rs 41,300 crore. This results in an overall 8.4x multiple and an estimated gross IRR of 33%.
The capital deployment breakdown shows a mix of internal and external funding:
- Direct Investments: Approximately Rs 3,600 crore has been contributed by Info Edge and its group companies.
- External Capital: Nearly Rs 1,300 crore has been channeled through Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) managed by the company, which have delivered a combined gross IRR of around 22%.
