HDFC MF and ADIA Lead Massive ₹777 Crore Block Deal in Corona Remedies
A major reshuffle in the shareholding pattern of pharmaceutical player Corona Remedies Limited took place on June 17, 2026, as marquee institutional investors stepped in to absorb a significant stake. The block deal saw heavyweights like HDFC Mutual Fund and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) acquiring shares from major sellers.
Details of the Massive Divestment
The transaction was primarily driven by Sepia Investments, which offloaded 43,28,943 shares of Corona Remedies. The shares were sold at a price of ₹1,730 per share, amounting to a deal value of approximately ₹748.9 crore.
In addition to Sepia, another seller, Anchor Partners, participated in the divestment by offloading 1,61,861 shares at the same price of ₹1,730 per share, valued at roughly ₹28 crore. Combined, these two entities divested a total stake worth approximately ₹776.9 crore in the pharmaceutical company.
HDFC Mutual Fund Emerges as the Dominant Buyer
The buy side of the deal featured a diverse group of twelve institutional investors, with domestic and international funds showing strong interest in the stock. HDFC Mutual Fund stood out as the most aggressive participant, acquiring 24,50,000 shares. This transaction, worth about ₹423.9 crore, accounted for more than half of the total deal value.
Other significant domestic players included:
- Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund: Acquired 4,90,000 shares worth ₹84.8 crore.
- Invesco Mutual Fund: Picked up 2,89,017 shares valued at ₹50 crore.
- Kotak Mahindra Mutual Fund: Bought 1,61,861 shares worth ₹28 crore, matching the exact volume sold by Anchor Partners.
- WhiteOak Capital Mutual Fund: Purchased 1,45,000 shares worth ₹25.1 crore.
Global Institutions Drive Foreign Interest
The block deal also attracted significant interest from international asset managers and sovereign wealth funds, signaling global confidence in the company's outlook.
The Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) participated by purchasing 39,130 shares worth approximately ₹6.8 crore. Aberdeen-linked entities also showed substantial appetite, with Aberdeen Asian Smaller Companies Investment Trust Plc buying 4,50,868 shares (₹78 crore) and Aberdeen Standard Sicav I - Asian Smaller Companies Fund acquiring 2,74,132 shares (₹47.4 crore).
