The U.S. government ordered Anthropic to block all foreign nationals from its advanced AI models.

This order forced the company to disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for everyone.

The directive comes from the Trump administration. It aims to prevent non-U.S. persons from using these AI systems. This includes foreign nationals living in the U.S. and even Anthropic employees.

Why did this happen?

Government officials found a way to bypass safeguards in Fable 5. They fear people will use the AI to find software vulnerabilities. This could turn the AI into a cyber weapon.

Anthropic disagrees with the decision. They argue:

Mythos technology is highly skilled at finding software bugs. Some of these bugs have existed for decades. The government wants to keep this power within U.S. borders.

This move marks a major shift in policy. Before, restrictions focused on AI chips. Now, the government is restricting access to models based on a user's nationality.

The impact on Anthropic is high. The company recently filed for an IPO. This sudden government action could hurt its value and investor trust.

To follow the law, Anthropic asked Amazon Web Services to revoke access to these models globally. Users will likely need to prove U.S. citizenship to use these tools in the future.

This case shows how national security will shape the future of AI.
