Sensex and Nifty Surge for Third Day: IT Stocks and Oil Prices Drive Rally

Indian benchmark indices continued their impressive winning streak on Tuesday, marking the third consecutive session of gains. Supported by a de-escalation in US-Iran tensions and a resurgence of foreign fund inflows, both the Sensex and Nifty reached significant milestones during intraday trading.

Benchmark Indices Hit New Heights

The BSE Sensex witnessed a robust rally, climbing 544.15 points (0.71%) to close at 76,808.48, after hitting an intraday high of 76,846.74. This momentum brings the Sensex's three-session surge to a staggering 2,975.93 points, or approximately 4%.

Similarly, the NSE Nifty 50 rose by 135.25 points (0.57%) to settle at 23,989.15. The index touched a high of 24,002.60 during the session. Over the last three trading days, the Nifty has advanced by 827.55 points, representing a 3.57% increase.

IT Sector Leads the Charge

The rally was largely spearheaded by the Information Technology sector. HCL Tech emerged as the standout performer on both the Sensex and Nifty lists, surging 3.55% to close at Rs 1,159. This jump followed the company's announcement of a Rs 1,427 crore investment to acquire a 10.46% stake in Sarvam AI, a government-backed sovereign AI model developer.

Other notable gainers included:

Sectoral indices also showed broad-based strength, with Realty gaining 2.27%, Focused IT rising 1.72%, and FMCG climbing 1.12%.

Global Drivers: Oil Prices and FII Inflows

Two major global factors acted as catalysts for Tuesday's market optimism. First, the reported peace deal between the US and Iran regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz eased fears of energy supply disruptions. Consequently, Brent crude prices fell by 2%, trading at $81.45 per barrel.

Second, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) returned to the Indian market as net buyers. Exchange data revealed that FIIs purchased Indian equities worth Rs 200.05 crore on a net basis, providing much-needed liquidity and confidence to domestic investors.
