India started their innings with 5 runs on the board during the third ODI against Afghanistan. This happened at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

The umpires awarded these penalty runs to India.

The penalty occurred during the first innings. Afghanistan players ran on the danger area of the pitch. Rules prohibit players from stepping on the worn part of the surface.

The officials enforced the rule and gave India five penalty runs.

This changed the score before the first ball of the second innings.
