Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon predicts a massive shift in how you use technology. AI agents will soon replace traditional mobile apps.
Instead of opening separate apps for banking, travel, or shopping, you will talk to an AI agent. You tell the agent what you need. The agent completes the task across different services for you.
Amon says apps are not dead, but they will change. The agent becomes the main interface.
To support this, Qualcomm is working on over 40 new device types. These are not just smartphones. Expect to see:
- Smart glasses
- Camera earbuds
- Wearable pins
- Smart jewelry
- Advanced smartwatches
These devices must be always on. They need to see the world to understand your context. Amon predicts smart glasses could reach hundreds of millions of units in two years.
This shift changes everything for hardware and software:
- AI companies are now building hardware to collect user data.
- Silicon chips must be redesigned to handle high AI workloads with low power.
- The role of the smartphone will move from a primary tool to a support device for the agent.
The future means less time swiping and more time talking. You ask for a transaction history, and the agent shows it instantly.
This change brings new privacy questions. Always on devices with cameras and microphones will collect massive amounts of personal data.
