AI moves fast.
A few months ago, I felt lost. Every week, new coding assistants and new workflows appeared. People claimed they built apps in hours. I felt I had to keep up or fail.
I tried many tools. I used Cursor, ChatGPT, Claude Code, and Lovable. I switched between them constantly. I thought a better tool would make me a better developer.
It did not.
The best lesson was not about picking a tool. It was about learning how to work with AI.
Now, I do not ask AI to write code immediately.
I start by explaining the problem. I describe:
- The feature requirements
- Business rules
- Edge cases
- The final goal
Sometimes I use ChatGPT to plan the implementation first. I get a clear plan. Then, I give that plan to an agentic assistant to build.
This change changed everything.
I spend less time on boilerplate code. I spend more time on:
- Software architecture
- User experience
- Solving the actual problem
AI makes mistakes. I review every line before production. I do not write every line myself. I guide the process instead.
The tools will change. The real skill is how you communicate with AI. Use it as part of your process. Invest in that skill.
