Casey Harrell lives with ALS. He is paralyzed and cannot speak clearly.

For three years, he used a brain-computer interface (BCI). Researchers call him a power user. He does not just use the device. He pushes its limits.

This technology lets him regain his agency. It gives him his dignity back.

The impact reaches far beyond one person. Millions of people face paralysis or neurodegenerative diseases. This technology offers them a way to connect with the world.

Current challenges exist:

  • The devices cost a lot of money.
  • They require invasive surgery.
  • The tech is still in early stages.

We also face hard questions. How do we handle consent? How does an interface change a person's identity?

BCI is more than a medical fix. It is a tool for expression. It changes how we view disability.

The line between human and machine is moving. We must watch how this shapes our future.
