The relentless struggle for clean water in Gaza has escalated from a scarcity issue to a full-scale public health emergency, threatening long-term environmental stability. As families navigate shattered neighborhoods to find basic hydration, the collapse of sanitation systems is creating a cycle of disease that may haunt the region for decades.

The Collapse of Vital Water Infrastructure

The scale of destruction facing Gaza's water utility is staggering. Before the current conflict, the enclave operated approximately 320 water wells; today, fewer than 100 remain functional. While the Israeli military, through COGAT, maintains that it does not deliberately target essential infrastructure and works with international agencies to address hygiene, the logistical reality on the ground remains chaotic.
