India’s Exports Hit Record $863 Billion in FY26 Amid Global Headwinds

India has achieved a landmark milestone in its trade journey, with total exports reaching an all-time high of $863 billion in the 2025-26 fiscal year. This significant growth comes despite a volatile global landscape marked by escalating US tariff measures and ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

The fiscal year 2025-26 was characterized by significant external challenges that threatened to disrupt global supply chains. However, according to Ajay Bhadoo, Additional Secretary in the Department of Commerce, India’s export ecosystem demonstrated remarkable resilience. Despite the dual pressures of shifting US trade policies and the Middle East crisis, the nation successfully navigated these headwinds to set a new record.

Looking at the long-term trajectory, India's export capacity has nearly doubled over the last decade. The figures show a massive jump from approximately $441 billion a decade ago to the current $863 billion, signaling a structural shift in India's role in the global economy.

Gujarat has solidified its position as a dominant force in India's trade landscape, contributing nearly $110 billion to the nation's total exports. The role of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Gujarat has been pivotal in driving this economic surge.

Data shared by Dnyaneshwar B Patil, Zonal Development Commissioner of Kandla SEZ (KASEZ), highlights the transformative impact of these zones. Exports from Gujarat's SEZs rose from ₹21,79,808 crore in 2014-15 to ₹23,00,793 crore in 2025-26. Notably, Gujarat now accounts for roughly 21% of India's total SEZ-driven exports. Furthermore, employment within these zones has seen a massive spike, growing from 63,475 to over 2.22 lakh jobs during the same period.
