𝗪𝗶𝗙𝗶 𝟱 𝘃𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝗙𝗶 𝟲: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗜 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱
I thought my internet provider was the problem.
My video calls froze. My family struggled to stream shows at the same time. I almost paid for a faster internet plan to fix it.
Then I realized my router was the bottleneck. I was using WiFi 5.
I switched to WiFi 6. I expected a small speed boost. I got something much better.
The difference is not just about top speed. It is about how your router handles many devices at once.
Think of WiFi 5 like a single-lane road. One device talks to the router, then the next one goes. If you have ten devices, they all wait in line. This creates lag and slow speeds.
WiFi 6 works like a multi-lane highway. It uses a technology called OFDMA. This allows multiple devices to transmit data at the same time. They no longer wait in a queue.
Here is what changed in my home:
- Consistency: My video calls stopped freezing when someone else started a download.
- Latency: Lag in gaming and video calls dropped significantly.
- Efficiency: My old WiFi 5 devices still work perfectly. They do not slow down the rest of my network anymore.
You do not need to replace every device you own. WiFi 6 is backward compatible. Your old phones and laptops will connect without issues.
Who needs this upgrade?
- You should upgrade if you have many smart devices (bulbs, cameras, TVs).
- You should upgrade if multiple people use the internet at the same time.
- You should upgrade if you notice slowdowns during busy hours.
If you live alone and only use one laptop, you might not notice a difference.
Do not blame your internet provider before you check your router. Look for the model number. If it says 802.11ac, you have WiFi 5. If it says 802.11ax, you have WiFi 6.
Stop fighting for bandwidth and start managing your network better.
