Sensex and Nifty Rally for Third Day as Global Cues Ease Crude Fears

Indian equity markets extended their winning streak for the third consecutive session on Tuesday, driven by positive global sentiment and a significant de-escalation in Middle East tensions. The benchmark indices saw robust buying interest, marking a cumulative surge of nearly 4% for the Sensex over the last three trading sessions.

Benchmark Indices Hit New Heights

The BSE Sensex gained 544.15 points, or 0.71%, to close at 76,808.48, having touched an intraday high of 76,846.74. Similarly, the NSE Nifty 50 rose by 135.25 points, or 0.57%, to settle at 23,989.15, briefly crossing the 24,000 mark during the session.

This rally follows a powerful momentum building over three days, with the Sensex advancing 2,975.93 points (4%) and the Nifty climbing 827.55 points (3.57%) in total during this period.

IT Sector Leads the Charge

The rally was largely spearheaded by the Information Technology (IT) sector. HCL Technologies emerged as the standout performer on both the BSE and NSE, surging 3.55% to reach Rs 1,159. This jump followed the company's announcement of a Rs 1,427 crore investment to acquire a 10.46% stake in the government-backed AI developer, Sarvam AI.

Other significant gainers included:

Conversely, the metal and auto sectors faced headwinds. Hindalco was the top loser on the Nifty 50, dropping 3.11%, followed by JSW Steel, which declined 1.72%.

Global Drivers: US-Iran Peace and Softening Crude

A primary catalyst for the market's optimism was the reported peace deal between the US and Iran regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. This development eased fears of energy supply disruptions, causing Brent crude prices to slide by 2% to trade at $81.45 per barrel.

Furthermore, the return of Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) provided much-needed liquidity. On Monday, FIIs turned net buyers, purchasing Indian equities worth Rs 200.05 crore. This positive sentiment was echoed in global markets, with the US Nasdaq Composite surging 3.07% and the S&P 500 gaining 1.65%.
