๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฆ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ ๐๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป I created a fake author with no web presence. Then I tested how fast AI models would cite him.
- I used 5 web-based AI models.
- I asked 16 questions about the author every day for 23 days.
- I scored the answers: +1 for correct, 0 for unknown, -1 for wrong.
The first correct citation happened on day 6. But here's what's interesting:
- The author's website was blocked to AI crawlers for 22 out of 23 days.
- The AI models still cited him correctly.
- They used other sources like the Knowledge Graph and Wikidata.
This study shows that:
- Structured identity is key to getting cited by AI models.
- Social media presence doesn't directly impact AI citations.
- Recognition and discovery are different: getting cited when named is easier than getting recommended unprompted.
If you want to be visible to AI systems:
- Build a strong online identity with Wikidata and a website.
- Check if your website is accessible to AI crawlers.
- Focus on structured identity for AI citations, not social media virality.
- Treat recognition and discovery as separate goals.
