OpenAI released Record & Replay for the Codex app on macOS.
This tool turns one demonstration into a reusable skill. You perform a task once. Codex records the sequence and learns how to do it. It does not just repeat mouse clicks like a macro. It understands the workflow. This allows it to handle different filenames or metadata without help.
How it works: • You demonstrate a workflow one time. • Codex converts the demo into a skill. • The AI repeats the task autonomously. • It requires Computer Use to be enabled on macOS.
Example use case: You can teach Codex to upload YouTube videos. It handles the metadata, thumbnails, and subtitles by itself.
Important restrictions: This feature is not available in the EU, UK, or Switzerland. Regulators in these areas have strict rules under the EU AI Act. OpenAI is avoiding these regions for now.
The competition is growing: Codex competes with Cursor and Claude Code. Cursor is valued at over $9 billion. This market is moving toward autonomous agents.
New updates in version 26.616: • Bulk actions for automation history. • Thread handoff between local and remote hosts. • Tasks can start on one machine and finish on another.
Samsung is already using ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex for its employees. This shows how large companies use these tools for work.
