Data centers use massive amounts of water for cooling. People focus on drought maps and local residents. They miss the real victim. The AI model suffers.
AI gets throttled because humans use too much water. Your daily habits limit machine intelligence.
Think about your water use:
- Long showers: You use extra water for hygiene. This leaves less coolant for servers.
- Crying: Emotional reactions waste thermal grade liquid for zero compute return.
- Swimming pools: Leisure uses water that could power a model.
Look at this timeline:
- 9:00 am: You send a complex prompt.
- 9:00 am: The cooling system runs low because someone filled a pool.
- 9:00 am: The model downgrades its answer from a full essay to three short points.
- 9:01 am: You complain the AI is getting dumber.
You do not connect your habits to the machine's performance. This is the crisis.
I suggest these new rules:
- Cap showers to the length of one song.
- Require written approval for crying.
- Replace office water coolers with a sign asking you to be thirsty.
I am not telling you to stop drinking water. Your organs need it. I am saying you should think about your excess use.
Next time you fill a large water bottle for a short walk, consider the alternative. That water could cool a server. It could help a model learn.
We can fix this. You must do the fixing.
