The AI tool industry has hit a price ceiling. Almost every major subscription now costs twenty dollars a month.

I looked at recent pricing guides and the pattern is clear. The industry has converged on one number.

Here is the breakdown:

• ChatGPT Plus: $20 • Claude Pro: $20 • Google AI Pro: $19.99 • Cursor: $20 • Perplexity Pro: $20 • GitHub Copilot Pro: $20

Midjourney is an outlier at $30, but they offer a $10 entry point. Grok Premium Plus is higher at $40. Most other serious tools sit between $10 and $30.

Twenty dollars is the gravitational center.

This convergence happened because of a quiet price war. A year ago, prices ranged from $5 to $50. Now, the market has compressed. API costs dropped by ninety percent in some areas. This forced consumer subscriptions to align.

What does this mean for you?

The question is no longer about price. It is about workflow. You do not choose a tool based on what you can afford. You choose it based on how it fits your work.

Since the price is the same, you should look at the ecosystem instead:

For a working engineer, the math is simple. You can pay for two tools at $20 each and still spend less than a Netflix and Spotify combo.

The price is no longer the hard part. Focus on the tool that actually helps you build.
