For ten years, miners picked pools using one number: hashrate. You thought a bigger pool meant more stability. That logic is incomplete for large-scale operations.

Hashrate tells you how often a pool finds blocks. It does not tell you what happens to your BTC after it finds them.

Market share and user value are different things.

Payout models change your revenue.

• PPLNS pools pass luck to you. If the pool has bad luck or finds orphaned blocks, your revenue drops. • FPPS and PPS+ models move that risk to the pool. You pay a higher fee to avoid this risk.

F2Pool charges 2.5% on FPPS. AntPool splits fees between models. Braiins Pool offers 0% on PPLNS. For a small hobbyist, these fees do not matter. For a large operator with hundreds of PH/s, these fees change your entire financial plan.

Technical specs matter more than ever.

Stratum V2 is changing how miners control block templates. Seven major pools representing 75% of global hashrate committed to this standard. This lets you build your own templates instead of accepting the pool's version. This gives you more leverage over transaction selection.

Uptime and support also define a good partner.

If a payout fails during a market move, you need an account manager. You do not need a Telegram admin. Companies like Luxor and Braiins Pool built reputations on transparency and documentation.

Institutional miners now look for partners, not just pools.

Large operators split their hashrate across multiple pools. They do this to manage risk. They want to avoid a single point of failure, whether it is technical or political.

Hashrate is a ranking, not a strategy.

Use hashrate to filter your options. It proves the pool operates at scale. But do not stop there.

When you manage real capital, you must look at:

  • Fee structures
  • Payout models
  • Support quality
  • BTC movement ease

The biggest pool is not always the best pool. The best pool is the one that fits your specific operational needs.
