You want to test a new idea in Claude Code. You do not want to lose your current chat. Use the /branch command.
It forks your conversation. This lets you explore a different path. The original chat stays safe. Use /resume to go back to your first version.
Example:
- Claude suggests an OOP refactor.
- You like the result.
- Type /branch.
- Ask Claude to try a functional pipeline instead.
You now have two versions to compare.
