AI Fluency: The Skill That Separates The Best from the Obsolete

Two marketing managers use the same AI tool on Monday morning.

The first manager asks for a product launch email. She gets a basic draft. She pastes it into her email and moves on. She thinks AI is okay sometimes.

  • Constraints: Set limits on length, tone, and what to avoid.
  • Objective: State exactly what the goal is.
  • Style: Define the structure or organization.

Vague prompts produce generic results. Structured prompts produce high-quality work.

You must also follow three safety rules:

  1. Data Privacy: Treat public AI chats like a public email. Do not paste sensitive client data or internal strategies.
  2. Legal Risk: AI content has unclear copyright status. Always check for plagiarism in high-stakes documents.
  3. Hallucinations: AI can state false facts with total confidence. Always verify specific numbers, names, and citations using primary sources.

AI will not replace you. But a professional using AI will.
