Dow Hits Record High as Falling Oil Prices Fuel Wall Street Rally

Wall Street witnessed a significant surge on Tuesday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average touching an intraday all-time high of 52,031.80. The rally was primarily driven by easing crude oil prices and growing optimism surrounding a potential US-Iran peace deal, providing a temporary boost to global investor sentiment.

Energy Optimism and the Impact on Oil Prices

A major catalyst for the market's upward movement was the decline in crude oil prices, triggered by a tentative agreement between the United States and Iran. The deal aims to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy shipping artery. This geopolitical development saw Brent crude fall by 3.6 per cent to approximately $80.20 a barrel, briefly dipping below the $80 mark for the first time since early March.

While the agreement provided a tailwind for equities, the energy sector itself saw a slight slip of 0.4 per cent as oil prices hit a nearly three-month low. Investors remain cautiously optimistic, noting that uncertainties regarding Iran’s nuclear programme and the exact timeline for restoring full shipping operations persist.

SpaceX Emerges as a Global Tech Giant

In a major corporate milestone, SpaceX continued its massive rally following its blockbuster stock market debut. Shares climbed between 7 per cent and 9.5 per cent on Tuesday, propelling the company's market valuation above Amazon. This surge has officially made SpaceX the fifth-most valuable US-listed company.

Further cementing its dominance in the technology landscape, SpaceX announced a massive $60 billion plan to acquire the software firm Anysphere. This strategic move is aimed at expanding the company's footprint in the rapidly evolving enterprise artificial intelligence (AI) market.

Financial and semiconductor stocks were the primary engines of growth during the session. The S&P financial index climbed 1.1 per cent, with heavyweights like JPMorgan Chase gaining 1.8 per cent, Bank of America rising 1.2 per cent, and Goldman Sachs advancing 1.3 per cent.
