A junior developer recently told me he sees 70% fewer job postings on LinkedIn than before.
He asked where the jobs went. I did not have an answer.
AI tools like ChatGPT and GitHub Copilot now handle the tasks freshers used to do. They write boilerplate code. They fix basic errors. They write documentation.
A complex software product that once needed 10 people can now be built by 3 people using AI.
One senior can now do the work of several juniors by using AI to review code, test, and automate deployment.
This creates a massive problem. If companies stop hiring juniors today, there will be no experienced seniors in five years. AI can generate code, but it cannot generate experience.
The job market is not dying. It is changing.
Companies still hire juniors. But they do not want "learners" anymore. They want juniors who can use AI to deliver results from day one.
Here is how you stay ahead:
Learn to validate AI code. AI makes mistakes. 63% of developers say debugging AI code takes longer than writing it. The real skill is finding those errors.
Stop watching tutorials. Build real projects. 78% of graduates who find jobs quickly have strong GitHub portfolios or internships. A degree is not enough.
Move beyond execution. Writing code is "execution." AI is great at execution. You must learn System Design, Product Judgment, and Problem Framing. Do not just ask how to write code. Ask what to build and why.
Become AI-fluent. AI skills appear in 42% of software job descriptions now. Those with AI skills find jobs 2.3 times faster.
Specialize in a domain. Being a "MERN stack developer" is risky. Being a Fintech developer or a Telecom specialist is secure.
Aim for high-value sectors. Focus on industries like Fintech, Telecom, or RMG Tech. These sectors require human oversight and compliance that AI cannot handle alone.
The gap between a basic developer and an AI-powered developer is growing. The pay gap is even larger.
Do not just use AI. Work with AI.
