InvITs Distribute ₹22,800 Crore to Unitholders in FY26
India's Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs) have demonstrated remarkable resilience and growth, distributing nearly ₹22,800 crore to unitholders during the last fiscal year. This surge in payouts, coupled with a massive expansion in the investor base, signals a significant shift in how capital is being deployed into India's core infrastructure assets.
Massive Payouts and Growing Assets Under Management
According to the latest industry data released by the Bharat InvITs Association (BIA), InvITs distributed a total of ₹22,769 crore during FY26. This achievement brings the cumulative distributions since the inception of these trusts to a staggering ₹91,000 crore.
Parallel to the rise in distributions, the scale of the sector has expanded significantly. The Assets Under Management (AUM) grew from ₹6.3 lakh crore in the 2024-25 fiscal year to ₹7.1 lakh crore in FY26. This upward trajectory highlights the increasing capacity of InvITs to manage large-scale infrastructure portfolios while maintaining consistent cash flows for their investors.
Retail Participation and Unitholder Expansion
One of the most notable trends in the FY26 data is the democratisation of infrastructure investing. The total unitholder base of listed InvITs grew by an impressive 64 per cent over the last fiscal year. This growth was driven by the addition of nearly 2 lakh new unitholders.
The BIA noted that this surge reflects a rising awareness and acceptance of InvITs among retail investors. For many, these trusts have become a preferred vehicle for seeking stable, long-term, income-generating returns, providing a unique way to participate in the country's infrastructure development through the capital markets.
Capital Raising and Debt Profile
The appetite for InvITs is also evident in the capital markets. During the last fiscal year, InvITs successfully raised ₹1.97 lakh crore through equity, marking an increase from the ₹1.75 lakh crore raised in FY25. This enhanced ability to tap into equity markets provides the necessary fuel for further asset acquisition and infrastructure expansion.
