Noida International Airport to Launch First Cargo Flight Today

Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar is rapidly expanding its operational footprint, transitioning from passenger services to dedicated freight handling. Following the successful commencement of commercial flights earlier this week, the airport is scheduled to handle its very first cargo flight on a domestic route today.

A Strategic Shift Toward Becoming a Regional Cargo Hub

The arrival of the first cargo flight marks a critical milestone in NIA's mission to become the primary aviation and logistics gateway for North India. While the airport was designed to decongest Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, its focus on cargo is equally ambitious. By catering to domestic, international, and express cargo segments, the airport aims to leverage its strategic location and direct connectivity via the Yamuna Expressway to ensure the rapid movement of goods.

High-Tech Infrastructure and Massive Scalability

The cargo infrastructure at NIA, developed by Air India SATS (AISATS), is built for high-volume, high-speed operations. Currently, the facility boasts an initial handling capacity of 200,000 metric tonnes annually, but the long-term roadmap includes an aggressive expansion to 1.5 million metric tonnes.

To support this growth, the airport features:

Digitalization and E-commerce Integration

Recognizing the needs of modern freight forwarders and e-commerce giants, NIA is integrating advanced digital ecosystems into its logistics chain. The hub utilizes the IATA-recommended E-Freight platform to facilitate paperless documentation and end-to-end live tracking.

Operational efficiency is further enhanced through the deployment of sophisticated systems such as COSYS+, e-Acceptance, and various cargo community platforms. These technologies allow for real-time monitoring, reducing turnaround times and providing the transparency required by global supply chain players.

From Passenger Milestones to Economic Impact
