Many companies think adding leaders solves problems. They assume a CPO and a CMO will fix their growth. This is often a mistake.

You need to know if your company needs a CPMO or just two leaders who talk to each other.

Use these two questions to find the truth.

Question 1 for the company: Can your build-and-sell loop move fast enough with two separate leaders?

  • If yes, keep two leaders.
  • If no, you need a CPMO to create a structural link.

Question 2 for the role: Does this person have single accountability for demand, product, and revenue?

  • If yes, the role is real.
  • If they share accountability through meetings and coordination, the role is just a label.

These questions stop the noise. They show you if a company needs the role or if they are chasing a trend. They also help you evaluate a job offer. Before you accept a CPMO title, check if the structural conditions exist.

If you do not have single accountability, you do not have a real CPMO role. You have a coordination job.
