Waziri wa Petroli na Gesi Asilia wa Kitaifa, Hardeep Singh Puri, amedokeza kuwa bei za rejareja za petroli na dizeli zinaweza kupata upunguzaji katika siku za usoni. Akizungumza katika mkutano na wanahabari huko Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh, Waziri Hardeep Singh Puri alifafanua kwa nini bei za mafuta hazijashuka mara moja licha ya kushuka kwa viwango vya kimataifa vya mafuta ghafi. Alieleza kuwa Makampuni ya Masoko ya Mafuta (OMCs) kwa sasa yanatumia akiba zilizopo za mafuta ghafi zilizopatikana kwa bei za juu.
"Kwa sasa, makampuni yana akiba ya mafuta ghafi yaliyonunuliwa kwa bei za juu. Mafuta ghafi yanaponunuliwa kwa bei ya chini na kufika kwao, kuna uwezekano wa kupungua kwa bei za mafuta," Puri alisema. Ucheleweshaji huu ni hitaji la kimfumo katika mchakato wa kusafisha mafuta, kwani gharama ya usambazaji wa sasa wa mafuta imeunganishwa na mizunguko ya awali ya ununuzi.
Kulinda Bei za Ndani Dhidi ya Mabadiliko ya Soko la Kimataifa
Waziri alitetea usimamizi wa serikali wa gharama za mafuta katikati ya usumbufu mkubwa wa kijiopolitiki, hasa mivutano katika Asia Magharibi na Pembe ya Hormuz. Alidai kuwa India imefanikiwa kuwalinda walaji kutokana na athari kamili za mabadiliko ya soko la kimataifa.
Puri alibainisha kuwa serikali imechukua hatua za makusudi kwa kupunguza ushuru wa kati wa bidhaa (central excise duties) kwenye petroli na dizeli mnamo Novemba 2021, Mei 2022, na hivi karibuni zaidi. Hatua hizi zimeona serikali ikibeba mzigo wa takriban ₹10 kwa lita moja kwa mafuta yote mawili. Akilinganisha utendaji wa India na sehemu nyingine ya dunia, Puri alibainisha kuwa miongoni mwa mataifa 193 wanachama wa UN, ni Japani pekee iliyopata ongezeko dogo la bei za petroli kuliko India. Aidha, alidai kuwa ongezeko halisi la bei za mafuta limekomeshwa hadi takriban ₹7.60, akisisitiza kuwa viwango hivyo vimebaki kuwa thabiti ikilinganishwa na kilele cha mzozo wa Urusi-Ukraine mwaka 2022.

Despite the efforts to stabilize retail rates, the energy sector is facing significant financial headwinds. The Minister revealed that OMCs are currently incurring losses of approximately ₹1,000 crore per day. This financial strain is being driven by a combination of elevated crude prices and a weaker rupee, which complicates the economics of fuel imports.
While recent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East caused petrol and diesel prices to rise by roughly ₹7.5 per litre, the government's strategy has been to balance consumer protection with the operational viability of OMCs.
Economic Growth and Regional Development
Beyond energy, the Minister highlighted the rapid economic transformation in Uttar Pradesh. He noted that the state's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has surged from approximately ₹13 lakh crore in 2016-17 to nearly ₹36 lakh crore. He also lauded Sonbhadra district for its progress, noting that its per capita income has climbed from ₹43,000 in 2018 to approximately ₹1.2 lakh today.
